At age 7, his best friend's father was Walter Gilbert, who played third base for the Brooklyn Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds. From that point on, he began his love of baseball. He was the Center Fielder at his high school and for Legion teams and played one season under Coach Bobby Winkles at Arizona State University. After college, he was commissioned into the US Air Force and retired as Lieutenant Colonel. Throughout his 35 years in the Air Force, he played men’s fast pitch softball. He managed the first Men’s Senior Baseball (MSBL) teams in a newly formed league in Southern Maryland and went on to play and manage MSBL teams from 1994 to 2009. He played in 12 MSBL and “Roy Hobbs” World Series” age groups from 30+ to 52+, in Phoenix, AZ and Clearwater/ST. Petersburg, FL, for Maryland and Minnesota teams, and was part of the one world championship team.
Coach Mo began his baseball coaching career after he retired from the Air Force in 2005. From 2006 through 2021, he was in a variety of coaching positions which included Assistant Head Varsity Baseball Coach, First Base Coach, Hitting Coach, 1st Baseman Coach, Outfielders Coach, and JV Head Coach at Calvert H.S. He managed a Senior Division (16-U) team to a 10 and 3 record and was named Calvert American All-Star Coach. Not wanting to give up baseball, in 2022, he managed another Senior Division (16-U) that compiled an overall record of 15-4 between the regular season and the Calvert American All-Star Team.

Coach Mo enjoys teaching kids to play the game the right way, mentoring them to be good young men, as well as passing on his decades of baseball experience and knowledge. He is also certified in numerous medical courses required for high school coaches and has had background checks for each year he coached in high school and little league.
Coach Mo's passion for baseball and instruction continues to the extent that he renovated an old barn and turned it into a batting cage, "The Barn."
